Machteld works as a senior lawyer at Stibbe. She conducts a broad administrative law practice with a focus on education, culture and science, and issues involving subsidies, fundamental and human rights. She represents the interests of both public authorities, such as municipalities, and non-governmental organisations, such as educational institutions, science institutes, museums, housing associations, sector organisations, non-commercial foundations and companies.
In addition to her work as a lawyer, Machteld is writing a dissertation as an external PhD student at Leiden University on institutions that occupy an autonomous position in democratic society while being financially dependent on the government. She is conducting further legal research into this relationship between autonomy and financial dependence.
Machteld obtained a master's degree in constitutional and administrative law (cum laude) at Leiden University in 2011 and, before that, a master's degree in environmental law at the University of Amsterdam. Machteld regularly publishes in leading administrative law and education law journals, is the author of the T&C WNT, and speaks at meetings and conferences. Machteld won the title 'upcoming legal talent 2015' from the Legal Women Foundation in 2015. She has also had several entries in Chambers.
