Tom Verdonk co-edited ‘Unfair Trading Practices in the Agricultural and Food Supply Chain’
Tom Verdonk has co-edited the book ‘Unfair Trading Practices in the Agricultural and Food Supply Chain’, recently published by Larcier-Intersentia.
The book provides an in-depth overview of how EU Member States have implemented the EU Directive 2019/633, which addresses unfair trading practices (UTPs) in the agricultural and food supply chain. The Directive aims to protect small, medium, and mid-range sized agri-food suppliers from UTPs imposed by more powerful buyers. It also requires each Member State to designate a public authority to enforce these rules. Member States were required to transpose the Directive by 1 May 2021 and to apply it as of 1 November 2021.
As part of a wider project, which included a questionnaire and Roundtables hosted by the KU Leuven - Consumer Competition Market (CCM) research institute in 2016, 2018, and 2023, this book collects key insights on the current state of UTP legislation and enforcement. Specifically, it features country reports from rapporteurs on the Directive’s implementation and related UTP regulations across all EU Member States.
