Environmental decision-making for green hydrogen infrastructure
In the Kabinetsvisie waterstof (Hydrogen Vision), the government commits to a sustainable energy system that is reliable, clean, affordable, safe and spatially compatible.
In the contribution below, Jan van Oosten, Neeltje Walgemoed and Pauline van Lingen discuss the environmental decision-making process for green hydrogen infrastructure, focusing on the spatial track and the environmental track for electrolysers and the transmission grid under the current legal framework and under the Environment Act.
They discuss in outline the policy background and the proposed hydrogen infrastructure in the Netherlands, the licensing of electrolysers, the licensing of hydrogen pipelines, and the method of coordination and acceleration of environmental law decision-making for green hydrogen infrastructure under current law and under the Environment Act.
