Life@Stibbe
Stibbe Brussels occupies 6 stories of the beautiful, state-of-the-art Central Plaza building with panoramic views of the Brussels skyline. It’s a few minutes’ walk from any Central Station platform or a bus or metro stop. All our team workspace and individual lawyer’s offices are equipped with all modern comfort and facilities to enable you to perform your best.
Our welcoming working environment, open company culture, and supportive colleagues are the hallmarks of what makes us different to other law firms. From health and wellbeing programmes to collective responsibility initiatives, Stibbe is a place where you can be yourself and be heard and where you can flourish in your career and personal life.
Stibbe’s teambuilding events give you the chance to get to know your colleagues better and to have fun together in a stress-free, active, and sometimes adrenaline-pumping way! They certainly create team spirit and bring a lot of laughter.
Your wellbeing is important to us
Life at Stibbe is not all work and no play. We adhere to the principle of a healthy mind in a healthy body. If you do too, you will immediately feel at ease here. Every Stibbe colleague is invited to take part in all our ongoing and regularly scheduled activities, programmes, workshops, and events that enable you to develop a healthy mind and body alone or together with colleagues. Because we practice what we preach: we have fun too.
You can sign up for one of our many sports activities, such as indoor soccer tournaments, our iconic cycling and ski weekends abroad, legal runs, and more. And for those who are less sportive, no worries. There are always plenty of alternatives: weekends specifically for junior associates and mid-level associates, weekly Thursday drinks, Stibbe family day, end-of-year party, and many more. Our social events enable every Stibbe member to reach out professionally—to build networks of trust and support to make things happen; and personally—to have friends and allies who provide emotional support and relief at work when you need it.
Our extensive facilities help you focus on your career
Taking breaks at work refreshes your mind and is essential for your physical and emotional health. We have our very own coffee bar BARrister where you’ll be greeted with smiles and friendly service and treated to tea, coffee or other refreshing drinks from the hands of artisans. We also have concierge services at your disposal for your daily personal needs, such as laundry (ironing and dry-cleaning), car wash, Cambio carsharing, just to name a few.
Pro bono
Legal representation is one of the cornerstones of a healthy economy and fair society. That is why we invest our time and effort in pro bono work that is socially and legally relevant and impactful. Every year, our partners and associates actively handle pro bono matters, either free of charge or at significantly reduced rates. They take on cases that make a real difference to individuals and to local and national organisations. We are proud that our lawyers can help those in need.
Diversity & Inclusion (D&I)
We believe that a focus on D&I promotes creativity, innovation and inspiration, which contribute to the success of our people individually, our firm and, ultimately, to the success of our clients. We aim to create a culture of inclusion where all Stibbe members are empowered to be themselves and have the opportunity to develop to their full, unique potential. Our second goal is to create a diverse workforce that reflects the clients and communities we serve. We do this by establishing D&I protocols in all our policies and processes, and by investing in the personal and professional development of our people and offering them flexible work solutions so that they can combine their work with family life. We also promote female entrepreneurship and gender equality by encouraging and supporting women at Stibbe to realise their professional aspirations. In that respect, we are a member of several diversity-promoting networks, such as the Women in Law and Leadership programme and the Legal Diversity & Inclusion Alliance.
Partnerships
We sponsor and support local communities in their social, cultural, and scientific initiatives. For many years Stibbe has been a loyal partner of charitable, humanitarian, and non-profit organisations such as ToekomstATELIERdelAvenir, Road to Glory, PAG-ASA, The Belgian American Educational Foundation, and the ICT Law Incubator project (part of the European Law Incubator project iLINC). Every year, everyone at Stibbea takes part in goodwill events (e.g., Red Cross blood drive) and various public charity fundraisers.
Sustainability
To minimise our environmental impact, we embrace new technologies and continuously inspire our people to make conscious decisions on whether their behaviour would best fit an environmentally friendly approach. Our Brussels office was the first Belgian law firm to invest in a climate-impact-offsetting project to neutralise its carbon footprint. We select “green” suppliers only and encourage the use of public transport (by paying for 100% of the annual pass). We installed a bike-and-shower station along with charging stations for cars and bicycles to encourage sustainable commuting. In addition, we continuously implement new IT and telecommunications technology to reduce commuting. Our offices have also implemented a state-of-the-art digital work environment which allows us to significantly reduce our paper usage. We banned plastic cutlery and cups and installed water purification plants to ensure that our employees have access to purified and chilled tap water.
