Following our successful TMT seminar series in 2023, our TMT team is happy to announce five new seminars taking place in 2024. These seminars will delve into cutting-edge topics within the area of technology law, offering valuable and practical insights for your organisation. To this end, we will present examples and case studies for legal and non-legal professionals. Please find an outline of the seminars below.

Seminar one: Data protection in flux - unpacking recent significant ECJ decisions

28/05 | Erik Valgaeren & Cyril Fischer

In our first seminar, we will guide you through the recent case law of the European Court of Justice. A number of significant decisions grant new perspectives on the concept of personal data, claims for damages under the GDPR and various other key concepts. We will point out the implications for your organisation.

Seminar two: IT contracts under the new Belgian civil law code

02/07 | Erik Valgaeren & Carolien Michielsen

During our second seminar, our TMT team will offer an overview of the recent changes and updates in Belgian civil law, specifically tailored to address the nuances and complexities of IT contracts. Notably, the incorporation of Book V and, more recently, Book VI into the civil law code carries significant implications for the legal position and liabilities of your (sub-)contractors, among other considerations. This hands-on session is designed to equip you with insights and strategies to steer clear of potential pitfalls.

Seminar three: Data protection & cybersecurity in M&A transactions

10/09 | Thibau Duquin & Florent Volckaert

Our third seminar will elaborate on the critical role of data protection and cybersecurity in the M&A landscape. From due diligence strategies to post-transaction integration, our TMT and corporate law experts will present insights into mitigating risks, safeguarding sensitive information, and navigating regulatory compliance.

Seminar four: Challenges at the intersection of data protection and labour law

08/10 | Jan Joos, Frederik Dudal & Thérèse Van Eyken

The processing of personal data in the workplace triggers challenging questions: what about access rights by employees? Can you keep using the e-mail inbox after an employee’s leave? Is tracking allowed? Our TMT and employment law experts will dissect these key questions and navigate you to find a balance between data protection and labour law.

Seminar five: Wildcard - your choice!

12/11 | TMT team

During our fifth and final seminar, we will address the topic voted by attendees during the first four seminars. Seize the opportunity to bring interests or concerns to our attention, allowing us to tailor an interactive session for the chosen subject. We will wrap up our series with drinks & bites, offering the possibility to connect with fellow attendees and our TMT team.
