Tijn Kortmann appointed Professor at Radboud University
Radboud University Nijmegen has appointed Tijn Kortmann as Professor of Government Liability Law as from 1 February 2024.
As Professor, Tijn will contribute to both education and research in the field of state liability: a topic that is attracting increasing attention, as developments related to state liability law are proceeding at a rapid pace, both in the Netherlands and in other jurisdictions. Climate and environmental liability, as well as the settlement of the Dutch childcare benefits scandal (toeslagenaffaire), are just a few examples of cases that are driving this legal development. These cases raise questions related to, for example, the efficient but fair compensation of claimants, the prevention of discrimination between different groups of claimants, and the protection of state finances from megaclaims. Tijn will explore whether our current legal system is capable of providing effective solutions to these challenges.
