Stibbe represented the Japanese Honorary Debts Foundation (Stichting JES) and fifteen individual victims in proceedings against the Dutch State, about compensation of war damage suffered by Dutch citizens during the Japanese occupation in the former Dutch East Indies.

In a principled decision, the court acknowledged that these victims were treated unequally and therefore unlawfully because Dutch citizens suffering under German occupation in the Netherlands had received more generous compensation. Because of prescription, this could however not result the claim to be awarded.
