Digital Law Up(to)date: Belgian transposition of the European Electronic Communications Code
Belgium finally published a law transposing the directive 2018/1972 of 11 December 2018 establishing the European Electronic Communications Code.
After a year's delay, Belgium finally published a law transposing the directive 2018/1972 of 11 December 2018 establishing the European Electronic Communications Code (the “EECC”). The initial deadline for transposition was 21 December 2020. The law adopted on 21 December 2021 (and published in the Belgian Gazette on 31 December 2021) also partially transposes the directive 2014/61 on measures to reduce the cost of deploying high-speed electronic communications networks.
This elaborate document (263 articles, 109 pages in the Belgian Gazette) makes changes to various existing laws, essentially the law of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications or the law. It enters into force 10 days after its publication, except for a few specific provisions for which specific details are given.
