Digital Law Up(to)date: Approval of the Data Governance Act by the Council of the EU

The Council of the European Union adopted the Data Governance Act. The Data Governance Act is an important component of the European Strategy for data. The new regulation promotes the availability of data and builds a trustworthy environment to facilitate their use for research and the creation of innovative new services and products.

On 16 May, after the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union approved the Data Governance Act (see here the press release of the Council of the EU). This means that the text is adopted and will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The Data Governance Act will enter into force 20 days after publication and the new rules will apply 15 months after its entry into force. 

The Data Governance Act is an important component of the European Strategy for data. The new regulation promotes the availability of data and builds a trustworthy environment to facilitate their use for research and the creation of innovative new services and products.
