Lizelotte De Maeyer

Counsel Brussels

Lizelotte has vast experience in complex procedural and dispute resolution matters, both in administrative phases and before judicial courts, including the Constitutional Court. She handles matters involving corporate income tax, personal income tax, regional and local taxes, and VAT. Lizelotte regularly assists clients during national and international tax audits and helps them prepare for tax dawn raids, data mining, and requests for information. She has a particular focus on tax procedures and the intersection of tax and privacy legislation, including but not limited to the confidentiality of correspondence with professionals under professional secrecy. Notably, she was a panelist at the 2023 IFA conference in Cancun, discussing taxpayer privacy rights in the context of DAC6 obligations on the “Developments in International Taxation” panel.

In addition to her litigation work, Lizelotte is very skilled in advising clients on tax matters, particularly in the field of (transactional) real estate and regularly assists clients with seeking tax rulings.

Lizelotte is also one of the thriving forces of the team’s estate planning practice and often advises on the use of Belgian civil companies and certification vehicles as well as estate planning in general. She is the author of several publications on corporate tax law, VAT and tax procedures, and is a regular guest speaker at seminars. In 2023, Lizelotte was a part-time teaching assistant in the tax department at Ghent University.

Lizelotte graduated in law from Ghent University in 2011. She also holds an LL.M. in tax law from the Université libre de Bruxelles (2012). In 2016, she obtained an LL.M. in international taxation from the New York University School of Law as a Fulbright scholar. In that same year, Lizelotte was a legal intern at the United Nations department of economic and social affairs in New York (for which she received an NYU scholarship).

Lizelotte joined Stibbe in 2018 following over 6 years at another law firm in Brussels. She was appointed as counsel in 2022.
